Common Problems Viewing .tif Files

The most common document type used in the LegisStream agenda system is a TIF image file. If you have problems displaying and printing the documents on the website , here are some possible reasons: You do not have a TIF viewer or the TIF viewer is not assigned to the TIF document type.. Another common problem happens when you click a link to download a TIF image: The Open button in the File Download dialog box may be disabled. Click here for tips on getting around this issue.

Do not have a TIF viewer

If you don't have a TIF viewer, you cannot open a TIF file. Depending on the version of Windows you have installed, the TIF viewer name is wangimg.exe or or kodakimg.exe.   It is automatically installed in standard edition of Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000.

For Windows 95, download the TIF viewer free of charge.

TIF viewer is not assigned to TIF file

If you have the viewer but still cannot open a TIF file, your file type association may not be correct.  When a TIF image file is clicked, your machine probably uses the incorrect viewer to open the file.  Therefore, you need to associate the TIF file type to the TIF viewer. The instructions are described as follows:

Windows 98/NT Users
  • Open Windows Explorer,
  • Click on the pull down menu View >Folder Options...,
  • Select the "File Types" tab and find "icon for TIF images TIF Image Document" in the list,
  • Check the "File type details" below the list.  It should state "Open with: WANGIMG".  If not, continue on with the next step..
  • Click on the "Edit..." button,
  • Go to the Actions list box and select "open",
  • Change the command line to:
    C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\ImageVue\Wangimg.exe""%1"
  • Click "OK" to save and close all dialog boxes.
